Lot 804: An Open Carved Wood Bookcase / Shelving Unit
An open carved wood bookcase or shelving unit of rustic vernacular construction. The piece is crafted from solid wood, possibly fruitwood or pine, and finished with a dark, uneven stain. It features four internal compartments separated by three fixed shelves. The exterior frame is elaborately decorated with chip-carved geometric and floral leaf borders. Flanking the shelving sections are two carved pilasters that lead up to a heavy, stepped and moulded cornice. The construction is solid and non-sectional, standing on a simple plinth base. A small white adhesive label bearing the number ‘804’ is present on the upper left side of the cornice, likely an inventory or auction house reference.
