A smoker’s bow armchair from the late Victorian period, featuring a traditional Windsor-style construction. The chair is built with a heavy, figured solid elm seat, deeply shaped and saddle-carved for comfort. The wraparound backrest and arms are formed from a steam-bent crest rail supported by eight slender turned spindles and two robust, ring-turned outer supports. The armrests terminate in elegant out-scrolled ends. The understructure comprises four ring-turned beech legs set at a raking angle, joined by a classic H-stretcher for stability. The timber exhibits a deep, dark brown finish with a natural aged patina.
