Lot 494: A Set of Villeroy & Boch Design Naif Ceramic Plates
This set of ceramic plates is from the Design Naif range produced by Villeroy & Boch, featuring the naive folk art illustrations of the French artist Gérard Laplau. The plates are made of vitro-porcelain and decorated with various transfer-printed scenes depicting rural and village life. The illustrations include agricultural workers in fields, a bustling village square, farmyards with livestock, a domestic interior with a fireplace, and a depiction of Noah’s Ark. Each central design is set against a cream-coloured ground and finished with a dark navy blue double-line border to the rim. Several pieces bear the printed signature LAPLAU along with corresponding scene numbers within the artwork, such as LAPLAU 3, 4, 6, and 9.
