Buyer's Premium:

This collection of English ceramic tablewares primarily features two distinct services by W.H. Grindley and Co., alongside miscellaneous serving pieces. The first group comprises dinner service components in white earthenware, decorated with a blue transfer-printed border of stylized floral urns and geometric motifs, finished with gilt highlights. This group includes a large oval platter, a circular lidded vegetable tureen, a shallow serving bowl, and an assortment of plates and saucers. The bases are marked with a green transfer-printed sailing ship logo and the text Grindley Made in England. The second group is a tea and coffee service by the same manufacturer, featuring a vibrant orange-red glaze with white circular reserves containing polychrome floral sprays. These pieces are accented with black-glazed handles and spouts and include a lidded coffee pot, a cream jug, several teacups, and matching saucers. These bear a black transfer mark of a unicorn and the initials W.H.G. and Co England. Additionally, the lot includes a single white dinner plate with a scalloped rim and blue floral sprigs, bearing a green Mason’s Ironstone mark to the reverse, as well as a white ceramic gravy boat and several small bowls with various floral patterns.

Condition report:

The collection is in overall good vintage condition. There is visible rubbing to the gilding on several pieces and surface scratches consistent with age and use. No significant chips or cracks were noted, although prospective bidders should expect minor manufacturing imperfections and light crazing typical of earthenware from this period.
