Lot 421: A Collection of National Geographic Real-Life Bugs and Insects Specimens and Magazines
This lot comprises a collection of preserved invertebrate specimens and associated literature from the National Geographic Real-Life Bugs and Insects part-work series. The collection features ten specimens, each individually encased in a clear rectangular synthetic resin block. Every block includes a printed identification label denoting the species and country of origin. The specimens are housed in a black plastic collector display tray designed for twelve blocks. Identifiable specimens include a Chinese Stick Insect from China, a Golden Silk Orb Weaver from Indonesia, a Spotted Black Cicada from Thailand, a Praying Mantis, a Giant Scorpion from Malaysia, an Armoured Cricket from India, a Madagascar Hissing Cockroach from Madagascar, a Snouted Grasshopper from Ethiopia, a Whip Scorpion from China, and a Rhinoceros Beetle from China. Accompanying the display tray is a stack of associated Real-Life Bugs and Insects magazines. The top issue is Number 48, featuring the Golden Orb-Web Spider, and a Field Guide supplement is also present. This educational series was distributed as a subscription collection during the mid-2000s.
