Lot 8: Antique Carved Bone Five-Decade Rosary with Stanhope Viewer Cross - Stanhope Depicts Shrine of The Virgin of The Rosary Of Pompeii
A vintage five-decade Dominican rosary featuring fifty-nine carved bone beads. The beads are finely carved with stylized rosebud and floral motifs, measuring approximately 5-6 mm in diameter. The beads are joined by a yellow metal link chain. A heart-shaped carved bone junction connects the main loop to a drop section. The terminal component is an ornate, decoratively carved bone cross featuring concentric circles and notched edges. The centre of the cross houses a Stanhope viewer, a miniature magnifying lens designed to hold a micro-photograph, typically of a religious site or figure. No hallmarks or maker marks are visible on the metal or bone elements. Image shown in photo’s is a representation of what
