Lot 664: A Greek Cast Copper Alloy Novelty Pegasus Horse and Carriage Charcoal Iron
A decorative novelty metalwork piece of Greek origin, depicting a winged horse (Pegasus) harnessed to a carriage. The carriage is designed in the form of a traditional charcoal box iron, featuring a pierced gallery for ventilation, an oversized scrolled handle, and embossed floral and foliate scrollwork on the side panels. The entire assembly is mounted on four spoked wheels. The piece is constructed from cast copper alloy, finished with a heavy, aged green verdigris patina. The mark HELLAS is cast in relief on the rear vertical backplate of the iron-shaped body. A small blue sticker with the number 13 is adhered to the front section of the carriage.
