Lot 608: A Set of Japanese Eggshell Porcelain Lithophane Teacups and Saucers
A set of Japanese eggshell porcelain tea wares, comprising several teacups and matching saucers. Each piece features a matte black exterior glaze decorated with hand-painted gilt landscape scenes, depicting traditional motifs including a pagoda, coniferous trees, and birds in flight. The teacups are designed with high-swept handles and tapered bases, while the interiors are finished in a glossy white glaze. Each cup features a Japanese lithophane with Geisha portrait in base, visible when held against a light source. The porcelain is of characteristic thin-walled, translucent quality. The exterior decoration includes a stylized gilt symbol integrated into the landscape scenery. No factory backstamps are present on the bases.
