Lot 801: Mid-Victorian Mahogany Chest of Drawers
A mid-Victorian mahogany chest of drawers, circa 1860-1880, featuring a two-over-three configuration. The chest is arranged with two short drawers above three long graduated drawers, all constructed with hand-cut dovetail joints. The primary timber is mahogany, with figured mahogany veneers applied to the drawer fronts to highlight the natural grain pattern. The secondary wood used for the drawer linings and internal carcase is pine. The design incorporates characteristic rounded front corners and a solid plinth base. The piece retains its original turned mahogany knobs and is fitted with inset brass escutcheons and central brass locks to each drawer.
