Lot 1008: A Mid-20th Century Chinese Export Carved Camphor Wood Fall-Front Bureau
This Chinese export style fall-front bureau is constructed from camphor wood. The exterior is decorated with intricate relief-carved landscape scenes featuring pagodas, figures, bridges, and foliage across the fall-front and lower drawer faces. The interior features a fitted compartment with three open pigeonholes and a central small drawer with a scalloped finger pull. The fall-front writing surface is supported by manual pull-out slides. The base section contains two full-width drawers with recessed circular handles carved directly into the wood. The desk is supported on cabriole legs terminating in ball-and-claw feet. Hardware includes brass hinges and an inset brass lock plate on the fall-front. A white rectangular paper label with the printed number 1008 is adhered to the upper left corner.
