Lot 506: A Pair of Late 19th Century Brass Pedestal Oil Lamps with R. Ditmar and Duplex Burners
A pair of late 19th or early 20th-century brass pedestal oil lamps. Each lamp is constructed with a matching polished brass baluster-form font mounted upon a tiered, weighted pedestal base. The lamps retain their original oil-burning configuration and have not been converted for electricity.
The lamps are fitted with different burner mechanisms. One lamp features a single-wick burner by R. Ditmar of Vienna, with the thumbwheel bearing the maker name arranged around a central six-pointed star mark. This burner includes a small, pierced coronet gallery and is fitted with a bulbous clear glass chimney. The second lamp features a Duplex twin-wick burner, as indicated by the thumbwheel marking, and includes a large circular brass gallery designed to support a secondary globe or Vesta shade. This lamp is fitted with a tall, straight-sided clear glass chimney.
Height including chimneys: 45–55 cm.
