Lot 1035: A Vintage Red Wool Bokhara Rug / Runner
A vintage red wool Bokhara rug / runner, hand-knotted with a wool pile on a cotton foundation. The rug features a classic all-over geometric design on a deep madder red field, decorated with repeating rows of octagonal medallions known as Tekke guls. These guls are detailed with black, dark brown, and ivory internal motifs. The central field is enclosed by multiple narrow borders featuring repeating diamond, zigzag, and cruciform patterns in a matching colour palette. The construction is hand-knotted, showing a regular knot density on the reverse, and terminates in white cotton knotted fringes at both ends. No maker’s marks, labels, or signatures are visible on the reverse or edges.
Exact dimensions are not provided.
Condition report:
The rug is in used condition with several areas of visible wear to the pile, including loose threads and thinning in the central field (photos 1 and 3). The white cotton fringes show tangling and light discolouration consistent with floor use (photo 1). The side edges appear intact with no significant staining or large holes visible.
