Lot 1085: A Vintage Mahogany Reproduction Side Cabinet
A vintage mahogany reproduction side cabinet of traditional English design, shown lying on its side. The unit is constructed with a mahogany-veneered exterior over a secondary wood frame, featuring a decorative moulded top edge and standing on bracket feet. The front configuration consists of two short drawers stacked vertically on the left-hand side, adjacent to a large open compartment. The drawers are fitted with brass-toned swan-neck bail handles mounted on shaped decorative backplates. The large right-hand compartment appears to have originally been enclosed by a door and currently houses a single loose, matching wooden shelf. The piece bears a pink circular adhesive sticker on the upper drawer face marked with the handwritten number 32 and a white rectangular paper label at the lower left edge bearing the printed digits 977. No manufacturer name or brand mark is readable on the visible surfaces.
Large-scale furniture items; exact dimensions are not provided.
Condition report:
The cabinet shows significant surface wear, including deep scratches, scuffs, and abrasions to the high-gloss polished finish on the top and side panels (photo 1). The large right-hand compartment is missing its original door (photo 1). The loose interior shelf shows surface wear and scratches consistent with the exterior (photo 1). Adhesive residue from various labels is present on the wood surfaces (photo 1). A length of white string is tied to the lower drawer handle (photo 1).
