Lot 642: A Vintage D.C. Thomson The Beano 50th Anniversary Paper Wall Calendar
A vintage D.C. Thomson The Beano 50th Anniversary paper wall calendar dating from 1988, complete with its original printed mailing envelope. The wall-hanging calendar is spiral-bound at the top edge and features a vibrant multi-coloured cover titled BEANO 50th ANNIVERSARY FUN RUN, showcasing a large cast of iconic characters such as Dennis the Menace, Gnasher, Minnie the Minx, and The Bash Street Kids. The included mailing envelope is printed with pink text reading THE BEANO CALENDAR 1988, SPECIAL 50TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION, and a copyright notice © D.C. Thomson & Co., Ltd., 1987. A white rectangular adhesive label is present on the front of the envelope reading Lot 642 for HCP Auctions South West, alongside a handwritten inscription in blue ink reading 9249 R £8. The cover design incorporates celebratory motifs for the comic history spanning from 1938 to 1988.
Condition report:
The calendar appears to be in very good condition with a glossy cover, showing only minor edge wear and light creasing at the corners (photo 2). The original mailing envelope exhibits more pronounced wear including overall creasing, light foxing and staining, and typical edge wear resulting from handle and opening (photo 1).
