Lot 698: A Vintage Ridgways Tea Advertising Deck of Playing Cards
A vintage Ridgways Tea advertising deck of playing cards, comprising a single pack of standard cardstock playing cards. The card backs feature a deep blue background with a white foliate pattern surrounding the brand name Ridgways TEA in a cursive font, with the words FOR TH visible below. The pack is topped with a Joker card featuring a jester figure in red and blue illustration, with JOKER printed in the corners. The deck is wrapped in a clear plastic film which bears a circular gold-toned foil seal with a central textured disc and decorative border. Several labels are attached to the wrapping, including a white rectangular sticker reading HCP Auctions South West, Lot 698, and www.hcpauctions.net, alongside a smaller label with 1080 handwritten in red ink.
Condition report:
The deck shows visible signs of age including overall toning and foxing spots to the edges and faces of the cards (photo 2). The card corners are visibly rounded from previous use or handling (photo 2). The plastic outer wrapping is wrinkled and has multiple adhesive auction and inventory labels attached to the surface (photo 1). As the pack remains wrapped, the completeness of the deck cannot be confirmed.
