Lot 109: A Vintage Painted Wooden Tool Chest and an Assortment of Hand Tools
This lot comprises a large wooden tool chest with a grey-painted finish, featuring a hinged lid and a removable internal wooden tray with two compartments. The chest contains an assortment of artisan’s hand tools and hardware consistent with an early-to-mid 20th-century workshop. Included is a hand-cranked eggbeater style drill with a red-painted drive gear and wooden handles, and a wooden joiner’s mallet. The collection features steel auger bits of various sizes. A circular metal component is stamped with the mark Hooley and Abbey. Also present are a yellow folding ruler, brushes, hinges, screws, a window handle, and a steel hex nut and bolt assembly.
Condition report:
The items are in as found condition, showing wear, paint loss, and staining to the wooden chest. Metal components, including the auger bits, exhibit surface oxidation and rust. The tools show signs of use including paint splashes and workshop grime. The mechanical status of the drill and other moving parts is untested.
