Lot 497: An Italian Taffe Rose Malachite Style Ceramic Urn and a Pair of Small Vessels
An Italian glazed earthenware urn produced by Taffe Rose, model number 2866. The vessel is of footed, flared form featuring twin handles with terminals modelled as swan heads, supported by a tiered circular base. The exterior is finished with a hand-applied marbled glaze in tones of green and turquoise imitating malachite with white veining. The rim, handles, and base are detailed with gilt bands and highlights. The underside of the base bears the handwritten marks Taffe Rose, 2866 Italy, and a vertical stroke. Included with the urn is a pair of small globular vessels with horizontal ribbing and twin lug handles, finished in an off-white cream glaze.
Condition report:
The urn displays surface wear and glaze loss to the marbled finish around the upper rim and interior edge. Minor rubbing is present on the gilt highlights. The base shows shelf wear and light staining. The associated vessels are in generally good condition, with one pot exhibiting a small glaze miss or minor chip to the interior rim.
