Lot 672: A Collection of Denby Green Wheat Pattern Stoneware and Commemorative Tableware
A collection of stoneware and porcelain tableware. The primary group is attributed to Denby Pottery in the Green Wheat pattern, designed by Albert Colledge and first issued in 1956. This stoneware set features hand-painted stylised wheat stalks in green, brown, and yellow tones set against a matte cream ground, with several pieces featuring deep green glazed interiors. The group includes a large oval serving dish, a rectangular serving dish, a small round bowl, a stack of side plates, and a five-piece cruet set comprising a salt shaker, pepper shaker, lidded mustard pot with a metal spoon, and a kidney-shaped stand. Also included is a porcelain commemorative tea cup and saucer produced for the 1977 Silver Jubilee of HM Queen Elizabeth II. The pieces feature transfer-printed portraits of the Queen and Prince Philip flanked by the dates 1952 and 1977, finished with gilded rims and scalloped edges. The lot is completed by a preserve bowl consisting of a circular cut glass vessel with vertical ribbing, housed within a silver-plated frame. The frame includes a pierced gallery, pedestal foot, and a high-arched fixed handle, accompanied by a silver-plated spoon with a shell-shaped bowl.
Condition report:
The items appear to be in good condition overall. The stoneware and porcelain pieces show no visible chips, cracks, or significant surface wear. The silver-plated stand and spoon exhibit minor surface tarnishing consistent with age.
