Lot 577: A Collection of Decorative Ceramics Including Clarice Cliff Bizarre and Paragon Elizabeth Rose
A collection of decorative ceramics featuring mid-20th-century English pottery. The lot includes a Clarice Cliff Bizarre range earthenware plate and two matching saucers, hand-painted with concentric rings in orange, yellow, blue, and dark brown. These pieces bear the Newport Pottery backstamp. Also included is a Paragon fine bone china tea cup and saucer in the Elizabeth Rose pattern, decorated with a pink rose and green foliage with gilt rims, bearing the royal warrant mark for Her Majesty the Queen. The collection further contains various tea cups and saucers, including an Imari-style pattern with cobalt blue and orange floral motifs, examples with transfer-printed landscape scenes, and a cup with bird and blossom decoration. Vendor notes attribute these additional pieces to makers including Coalport, Minton, and Colclough.
Plate diameter: approx. 25cm.
Condition report:
The Clarice Cliff items show light surface wear and minor paint loss to the hand-painted rings consistent with age. The Paragon tea ware appears in good condition. Other cups and saucers exhibit varying degrees of wear to the gilt rims and light surface marks. No major chips, cracks, or repairs are visible upon inspection. Fine crazing may be present on earthenware pieces.
