Lot 582: A Collection of British Copper, Brass, and Silver-Plated Metalware
This collection of metalware comprises various decorative and functional items, primarily in 19th and 20th-century British styles. The lot includes a large polished copper kettle of Victorian form, featuring a fixed strap handle, a gooseneck spout, and seamed construction. Accompanying the kettle is a small conical copper spirit measure with a simple strap handle. The silver-plated items consist of an oval tray with a raised gadrooned border and a circular dish decorated with Rococo-style repoussé scrollwork and foliate motifs. The brass and miscellaneous items include a model field cannon with a cast brass barrel and black-painted carriage, a novelty brass clog with embossed floral patterns, a small domestic handbell with a turned handle, a circular horse brass featuring a central emblem, and a small cast brass object in the shape of a walnut. No maker’s marks are visible on the exterior surfaces of these items.
Condition report:
The items are in fair to good condition overall. The copper kettle has been polished to a high shine. The silver-plated pieces exhibit typical surface tarnish and oxidation. The brass items show a natural aged patina with minor surface wear and oxidation consistent with age and domestic use.
