Lot 588: A Collection of Shropshire and West Mercia Constabulary Police Insignia and Uniform Accessories
This collection comprises various items of British law enforcement memorabilia, primarily associated with the Shropshire and West Mercia regions. The focal point is a chrome-finish Shropshire Constabulary helmet plate of eight-pointed star form. The central circular boss is inscribed Shropshire Constabulary and features the Shropshire county crest of three leopard heads, known as loggerheads, surmounted by a St Edward’s Crown. The collection includes several West Mercia Constabulary items, notably two circular silver-toned cap badges and two star-pattern badges with blue enamel centres. Also present are two white metal rank stars, two small silver-toned crest badges, and a gold-toned cross-shaped medallion for the Police Mutual Assurance Society. A large quantity of uniform buttons is included, rendered in both brass and white metal finishes, many featuring the Shropshire crest or the Royal Crown. Additional items consist of a large white metal circular mount or buckle featuring high-relief floral decoration of roses, thistles, and shamrocks, and a worn wooden box containing a selection of vintage keys, a whistle, and various hardware components.
Condition report:
The items are in good used condition, showing signs consistent with active service. Metallic surfaces exhibit a combination of bright finishes and natural aged patina, with instances of minor oxidation and surface wear. The wooden box displays significant exterior wear, including loss of finish and scuffing. All items are loose and sold as a single lot.
