Lot 769: An Art Deco two-piece glazed earthenware wash pitcher and basin set
A two-piece ceramic wash set comprising a tall, cylindrical pitcher and a matching large circular basin. The items are manufactured from glazed earthenware. The decoration consists of an Art Deco floral border featuring transfer-printed black outlines of stylised roses and foliage, which have been hand-painted with yellow and green enamels. This border is positioned atop a black trellis or lattice-work pattern. Both pieces feature a graduated yellow-to-cream ground. The rims are finished with a fine black line. The base of the pitcher is marked with a hand-painted 2 and the alphanumeric pattern code E 1191. The style and pattern numbering are characteristic of British earthenware production from the 1920s-1930s.
Condition report:
The set exhibits signs of age and use, including extensive fine crazing to the glaze which is most prominent on the underside of the pitcher. There are minor surface marks, light pitting, and some wear to the decorative borders. No major chips, cracks, or evidence of restoration are visible.
