Lot 939: A mid-20th-century golden oak dressing chest
A mid-20th-century dressing chest constructed from golden oak. The piece features a rectangular swing mirror supported by two uprights above a chest of three graduated full-width drawers. The construction includes a solid oak frame and top with inset panels to the sides and a stained plywood back. The drawers are equipped with dark-patinated metal drop handles on circular backplates. The unit is supported by integral square-section legs. A handwritten paper tag attached to the side reads GORDON oak dressing chest. There is a small white circular sticker to the front top-left corner and a rectangular auction sticker numbered 939 to the side. The drawer linings and internal construction are not visible in the provided images.
Condition report:
The chest is in fair to good used condition. The top surface shows several prominent circular watermarks and general wear to the finish. There are minor scuffs, scratches, and small dings to the edges and legs consistent with age and regular use. The mirror plate is clear with minor signs of ageing around the periphery. The back panel is intact and stable.
