Lot 642: A Collection of UK Banknotes and Arthur Thiele Illustrated Postcards
A collection of vintage UK paper currency and colour illustrated postcards. The currency includes three Bank of England banknotes: a green Series 1934-1949 One Pound note signed by K. O. Peppiatt, serial A27B 666062; a green Series C One Pound note signed by L. K. O’Brien, serial Z27A 584026; and a blue Series D Five Pound note signed by J. B. Page, serial SB19 075806. The banknotes feature portraits of Queen Elizabeth II and vignettes of Britannia. The postcards depict anthropomorphic dogs in whimsical classroom and social scenes, including one titled THE DOGS ACADEMY and others with Christmas Greetings text. Several postcards bear the printed signature of the German artist Arthur Thiele (1841-1919). The postcards are presented in protective plastic sleeves.
