Lot 693: A Collection of Mason's Ironstone Mandalay Red Pattern Ceramics
A collection of English ironstone decorative items in the Mandalay Red pattern by Mason’s. The items feature transfer-printed and hand-painted Chinoiserie-inspired floral and foliage motifs in vibrant shades of pink, red, blue, and green on a cream-coloured ground. Most pieces are finished with scalloped, gilded rims. The collection includes a table lamp of baluster form on a stepped wooden base with a red tasselled fabric shade, a large water jug with a scrolled handle, a small milk jug, a hexagonal lidded sugar bowl, a flared faceted candlestick, a footed rose bowl with a metal wire flower frog, several graduated dishes and bowls, a small flared vase, and a small lidded ginger jar. Most items bear the printed manufacturer’s mark to the base, consisting of the word MASON’S in an arc above a crown, with Mandalay Red. in script, followed by MADE IN ENGLAND and a series of dots. Some pieces also display hand-painted pattern or painter’s marks.
