Lot 553: Vintage Blue Water Spot Illuminated Desktop Globe with Original Booklet
A mid-to-late 20th-century illuminated desktop globe, identified by the accompanying original instructional booklet as a Blue Water Spot Globe. The globe consists of a plastic sphere featuring detailed political and topographical cartography. Geopolitical nomenclature, including Tanzania and Malagasy Republique, suggests a production date between 1964 and 1975. The sphere is mounted on a chrome-finished support arm featuring an integrated rotating time and degree dial with incised numerical markings. This assembly is set into a circular, black textured base. The item is equipped with an integrated electrical power cord and a standard UK three-pin plug. A small white adhesive label with the number 553 is present on the chrome neck. The instructional booklet identifies the item as the best and newest illuminated globe with the built-in spotlight.
Condition report:
The globe is in good vintage condition. There is visible surface dust and some minor scuffing to the circular base. The cartography on the sphere appears well-preserved with only minor signs of age-related wear. The electrical cord and plug are intact; however, the internal illumination and spotlight features have not been tested for electrical safety or functionality. The accompanying booklet shows light creasing and general handling wear consistent with its age.
