Lot 559: A Trio of Vintage Smoking Pipes including a Bewlay Lightweight and a Tyrolean Style Example
A trio of smoking pipes of various forms and materials. The group includes a straight-stemmed briar pipe, the shank bearing the stamped inscription Bewlay LIGHTWEIGHT LONDON.ENGLAND, with a black synthetic mouthpiece featuring a white B logo. Also present is a metal-stemmed pipe with a dark wooden bowl, the stem featuring longitudinal slots and a black mouthpiece with a white crescent-shaped mark. The third item is an ornate Tyrolean-style pipe with a polished wooden bowl, a hinged white metal wind cap, and a decorative cord attachment connecting to a multi-part stem. All bowls show internal charring consistent with regular use.
Condition report:
All pieces are in used condition with signs of age and wear. The bowls contain significant carbon residue and carbonisation. Surface marks, scratches, and minor abrasions are visible on the wooden and metal surfaces. The synthetic mouthpieces exhibit minor tooth chatter and light oxidisation. The cord on the Tyrolean-style pipe shows fraying and wear.
