This is an extensive dinner service of English fine bone china produced by Royal Doulton in the Alton pattern, number H5055. The service features transfer-printed decoration consisting of central multi-coloured floral sprays. The wide borders are decorated with scrolling architectural and foliate motifs in gold, tan, and green, interspersed with smaller floral sprays. Each piece is finished with a gilt rim. The collection includes several covered circular vegetable tureens with twin handles and foliate knops, a pair of gravy boats with integral stands, a pair of graduated oval serving platters, and multiple stacks of dinner plates, rimmed soup bowls, and side plates in two sizes. The base of each piece bears a transfer-printed factory mark in brown. The mark features a crown and lion above a circular Royal Doulton logo, with text reading English Fine Bone China, Alton, H5055, and a copyright date for Royal Doulton Tableware Ltd 1978.
