Live auction will start in __ days and __ hours

Start price: £3

Estimated price: £3 - £5

Buyer's Premium:

An antique Victorian upholstered low-seated spoon-back armchair, featuring a deep-seated frame and a characteristic curved backrest that flows into integrated, low armrests. The chair is raised on four turned dark-toned wooden legs, with the two front legs exhibiting ring-and-bulb turnings and terminating in brass castors, while the rear legs are of a simple splayed form. The entire piece is upholstered in a light tan corded velvet fabric. A small white rectangular adhesive label is positioned on the upper backrest reading 46671 in handwritten numerals. Additionally, a paper auction tag from MCP Auctions South West is attached to the backrest, identifying the item as Lot 1044. No maker’s name, signatures, or manufacturer’s stamps are legible on the visible exterior surfaces of the chair.

Large-scale furniture items; exact dimensions are not provided.

Condition report:

The chair is in poor condition and requires full restoration. The upholstery is extensively and heavily soiled with significant staining, spotting, and general discolouration throughout the seat, backrest, and arms (photo 1). Visible loose threads and fraying are present along the seams, particularly at the junction where the back meets the seat (photo 1). The wooden legs exhibit surface wear, scuffing, and minor indentations consistent with age and use (photo 2). The internal padding appears compressed and requires professional attention.
