Lot 603: Two Pairs of Vintage Sterling Silver and Opal Drop Earrings
Two pairs of vintage sterling silver and opal drop earrings of varied form. The first pair features an elongated, curved drop design with inlaid panels of iridescent white opal exhibiting play-of-colour in shades of pink, orange, and white. These are suspended from white metal shepherd’s hook ear wires. The second pair consists of two oval cabochon opals held in rub-over white metal mounts, showing flashes of green and yellow. This second pair is also suspended from shepherd’s hook ear wires. Although the settings are described as sterling silver on the accompanying documentation, no hallmarks or metal fineness stamps were observed during inspection. The lot is accompanied by a handwritten brown paper note reading ‘2 pairs of Sterling Silver + Fire Opal Earrings Res £20 V:932’ and a white adhesive label from HCP Auctions South West reading ‘Lot 603’.
Condition report:
Both pairs of earrings appear in good auctionable condition. The opals are intact with no visible chips, cracks, or fractures (photo 1). The silver mounts and ear wires show minor surface scratches and light oxidation consistent with age and use.
