Lot 605: A Vintage Mother-of-Pearl and Silver-Tone Metal Letter Opener
A vintage mother-of-pearl and silver-tone metal letter opener, presented in a velvet-lined case. The item features a flat, straight-edged blade that tapers to a rounded point, joined to the handle by a stepped bolster. The handle is constructed from a white material with a marbled, pearlescent iridescence, characteristic of mother-of-pearl or a high-quality resin, and is shaped with a rectangular section and a rounded terminal. The metal components exhibit a high-mirror polished finish throughout. A small rectangular mark is stamped onto the face of the blade just below the bolster; however, the characters are not clearly legible and do not spell a identifiable name. The letter opener is housed in a red velvet-lined presentation box with protective cream-coloured tissue paper.
Condition report:
The letter opener appears to be in excellent condition with no visible faults. The metal blade retains a high mirror polish with no significant scratching or pitting (photo 1). The pearlescent handle shows no visible cracks, chips, or delamination (photo 2). The presentation box remains structurally sound with a clean interior, showing only light external wear consistent with age (photo 1).
