Lot 606: A Vintage Mandala Decorated Mango Wood Keepsake Box
A vintage mandala decorated mango wood keepsake box of square form. The box is constructed from hardwood, likely mango wood, featuring a hinged lid with a small spherical dark-toned knob handle. The lid is embellished with an intricate carved floral mandala design, consisting of a central flower surrounded by concentric layers of stylized petals and scrolling foliage. The exterior surface is finished with a distressed metallic wash in a bronze or copper tone, with dark patina added to the recesses to highlight the decorative details. The interior of the lid and the rim are stained a dark chocolate brown, while the base is lined with an inlay of rectangular polished mother-of-pearl tiles, exhibiting characteristic iridescent lustre. A white rectangular adhesive label with the handwritten number 606 is attached to the right exterior side.
Condition report:
The exterior metallic finish shows intentional distressing, with minor scuffs and wear consistent with age and use visible at the corners and edges (photo 1). A small dark mark is present in the upper left quadrant of the lid (photo 1). The interior mother-of-pearl inlay is largely intact, though one tile in the top right corner displays a yellowish-brown stain (photo 2). There is visible wear and rubbing to the dark stain on the inner rim, revealing the lighter wood underneath (photo 2). The hinges and handle appear functional.
