Lot 752: A Vintage Churchill Fine Earthenware Tea and Dinner Service in the Orchard Fruit Pattern
A vintage Churchill fine earthenware tea and dinner service in the Orchard Fruit pattern, comprising four dinner plates, five salad plates, four side plates, four small bowls, and four teacups. Each piece is decorated with a naturalistic transfer-printed design featuring clusters of apples and pears on leafy branches in shades of red, green, and yellow against a cream ground. The items are defined by a scalloped rim highlighted with a dark brown or burnt orange line. The underside of the wares bears a printed backstamp with a circular border reading MICROWAVE & DISHWASHER SAFE . EST 1795 surrounding a central lion’s head crest. Below this, the maker’s name CHURCHILL is printed in capital letters, accompanied by the words Fine Earthenware.
Condition report:
The service appears in good overall condition with no visible chips, cracks, or significant surface wear in the provided images. A white adhesive lot sticker is present on the face of one saucer (photo 1). The printed backstamps remain crisp and legible (photos 3 and 4). No evidence of crazing is visible in the photographs.
