Lot 753: A Collection of Vintage Earthenware Table Wares in the Homemaker and Rural Countryside Patterns
A collection of vintage earthenware table wares in the Homemaker and rural countryside patterns, comprising circular dinner plates and a shallow bowl. The group features pieces of the mid-century modern Homemaker pattern, which display black and white transfer-printed motifs of 1950s domestic items, including a tripod floor lamp, a contemporary lounge chair, and stylized cutlery, all set against a background of fine, concentric wavy lines. The remaining items consist of plates decorated with polychrome transfer-printed scenes of traditional English countryside life, depicting thatched cottages, figures in period attire, and working horses. Several of these rural plates are finished with a gold-gilt rim. One plate from the rural series bears a printed signature in the lower right corner of the illustration reading ‘C. D. LEWIS’.
Condition report:
The ceramics appear to be in good overall condition with no visible chips, cracks, or repairs to the rims or faces shown (photo 1). The transfer-printed decoration remains vibrant and clear, and the gold-gilt rims on the rural plates appear largely intact (photo 1). Light surface scratches consistent with stacking and previous domestic use are visible on some pieces (photo 2).
