Two vintage musical drinking vessels, one a stoneware beer stein with a pewter lid and the other a character mug decorated with folk song motifs, both featuring internal musical mechanisms. The lidded stein is formed from stoneware with a cobalt blue ground and relief-moulded tavern scenes framed by scrolling cream borders. It is mounted with a domed pewter lid featuring embossed floral and geometric patterns. The wooden base of the stein bears a printed paper label reading THORENS, Movement, Trink, trink Brüderlein trink, and Made in Switzerland. The accompanying character mug is moulded from cream stoneware and decorated with relief figures illustrating the Devon folk song Widecombe Fair. The body is inscribed with the song lyrics beneath a heading reading CHORUS — WITH BILL BREWER, JAN STEWER, PETER DAVY, DANL WHIDDON, HARRY HAWKE, AN ROLD UNCLE TOM COBLEY AN ALL. The base of the mug is fitted with a circular metal plate housing a ring-pull winding mechanism.
