Lot 714: Three novelty and contemporary ceramic teapots
Three glazed earthenware teapots. The first is a novelty architectural piece fashioned as a half-timbered building with a chimney-shaped finial. It features signs transfer-printed in black reading THE TRAVELLER’S REST on the roof and THE MINER’S INN above the windows, which show figures of three patrons seated at a table. The second is a novelty teapot modelled as a wooden barrel draped with a red and white checkered tablecloth. The lid is decorated with relief-moulded miniatures of a lattice-top pie, a green-striped preserve jar, and a small secondary teapot. The third is a contemporary cream-glazed earthenware tea for one set, comprising a small teapot that stacks into a matching teacup. It is decorated with a repeating brown transfer-printed motif; the teapot body is inscribed tea tea tea, tea FOR one, and nice and hot, while the cup rim is inscribed mmm…tea tea tea…mmm…just for me. No maker’s marks or signatures are legible on the exterior of these pieces.
