Lot 162: A Collection of Mid-20th Century Folio Society Cloth Bound Volumes
A collection of six decorative cloth bound volumes published by The Folio Society, London, dating between 1955 and 1963. The group includes historical and literary works: The Trial of Joan of Arc (1956), Southey’s Life of Nelson (1956), A Journal of the Terror (1955), The Waterloo Campaign (1957), A Short History of English Literature (1962), and John Evelyn’s Diary (1963). Each octavo-format volume is bound in the publisher’s original decorative cloth or buckram, featuring gilt-stamped spines and illustrative designs. The interiors are printed on high-quality paper with clear typography and contain monochrome plate illustrations, maps, and frontispieces. The Nelson volume includes map endpapers detailing South America and the West Indies. The Short History of English Literature retains its original red card slipcase. The title pages and copyright pages clearly state the Folio Society imprint and respective publication years.
